MITCHELL – Wilma Maenell Fox, 88, passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Stonebridge Health Campus, in Bedford.

Born September 22, 1934, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Arnold and Louise (Akin) Shoopman.  She married Jimmy Fox January 1991 and he survives.

Wilma worked in assembly positions at General Electric, M. Fine and Sons, and retired from Carpenter Body Works.  She was active in sewing, reading her favorite books, hunting for antiques, and loved shopping.  Wilma was a member of the Ladies Auxilliary of the Friday Night Dulcimer Friends. She was a member of the Mitchell Weslyan Church. 

Surviving are her husband; children, Enola Gay Batchelor, Greg Chastain, Kim Whitmore, and Misti Bartlett; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; siblings Evelyn Ruth Hawk and Thomas Austin Akin.

Her parents; and siblings, Wanita Hopkins and Janet Terry, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Steve Jones officiating.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, at the funeral home.

    Misti, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mother was like a second mom to me. I have many great memories of her taking us to Holiday World and more. She will be missed.
