Was so sorry to hear of the passing of Zella. She was such a sweet person and I have so many memories of her at the store. I lived in the neighborhood and I dont think there was a day that went by that us kids didnt drop in. Big Red pop and penny candy. I still can remember going up and getting a pound of bologna and her wrapping it up and said on your way out take a piece of candy =) My thoughts and prayers are with all the family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Zella's passing. She was a dear family friend for as long as I can remember. I spent many happy hours spending the night at her house and happily remember all the times she took us to the beach at Spring Mill. I loved when she let me "help" stock the candy counter in the store or let me work the register with her when I was barely big enough to even reach it. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered with love. She truly was one of a kind. Shelia

To family of Zella Lawson: We lived next door to the Northside Grocery and spent many happy hours visiting with Zella and Aaron. Her little spitz dog, Mitzy, was a favorite of ours. Zella was so good to all the kids in the neighborhood and it was a very sad day when they closed the store. I hope they have pop machines in heaven. Please know that Zella and the store have a special place in my heart.

My dear Aunt Zella. The last year has been difficult for her and now she is at rest. Aunt Zella was made of strong stock and born to get up every day of her life and work hard and make a difference. Whether toiling away during a shift at a factory, running the Northside grocery store in Mitchell, or cleaning people’s houses to a sparkling shine – she was a woman that became a member of everyone’s family – related by blood or not. Her kind, generous and caring way always opened a place in your heart, your life and your family’s life.

Some of the best childhood memories I have are going to stay at Aunt Zella and Uncle Aaron's house during the summer. We went nearly every year. She made the most wonderful food and the best ice tea in the world. When they had the store we were given a small paper bag and allowed to pick out as much penny candy as we wanted. I loved her very much. I'm so happy that she's with Uncle Aaron now and all of her family...and I look forward to seeing her again!

Some of the best memories of my childhood are riding my bike to Zella's grocery store. All of the neighborhood kids went there, almost daily. I loved Zella. She was such a sweet and wonderful lady. I will remember her ALWAYS. Will be remembering her family in my prayers. God bless you all.

My Aunt Zella was the sweetest and best Aunt anyone could ever be fortunate enough to have. It is with bittersweet memories I think of her at this time. I have many precious memories of staying with them for days at a time when they lived in the log house. They gave me the only baby doll I ever had, what a thrill that was. She was a beautiful lady, a great cook and homemaker. She always inspired me. She was always fun, sweet, caring and good. She was just one of the nicest, sweetest, ladies I have ever known. There are many things I could recount about Aunt Zella, but it would take many pages to list all of her attributes, for there were so many. Aunt Zella has remained dear to me all my life and will always hold a special place in my heart. She is at peace now for, she has gone home for her reward.I send my deepest sympathy to her sisters and to the rest of her family. May God bless each of you, at this sad time.
