MITCHELL – Loyed Thomas Melton, 86, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at his residence.

Born October 18, 1931, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, he was the son of Thomas Samuel Lee and Mary Frances (Johnson) Melton.  He married Margaret VanMeter November 17, 1961, and she preceded him in death July 29, 1990.

Loyed was a farmer and had been employed at Roberts Brass.  He enjoyed working on cars and trucks and loved country and bluegrass music.

His parents; wife; son, Loyed Thomas Melton, Jr.; son-in-law, Douglas Overstreet; granddaughter, Madison Bickers; and siblings, Mary Pittman, Delia Perkins, and Bill Melton, preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, at Mitchell Cemetery with Rev. Johnnie Herald officiating.

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.  Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
