MITCHELL ā€“ Douglas Mikel Earl, 63, passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Born June 24, 1959, in Bedford, he was the son of Claude Vernon and Joan Lee (Bell) Earl.  He married Jana Biddinger on February 9, 1979, and she survives.

Doug retired from Ford/Visteon and had previously worked at Carpenter Body Works. He was a 1977 graduate of Mitchell High School and a member of Central Church of Christ in Bedford. Doug enjoyed farming, mowing, tractors, fishing, and riding his side by side. Family was the most important thing to him, and his grandchildren were his world. He loved being with them.

Survivors include his wife, Jana Earl of Mitchell; sons, Mikel (Kim) Earl of Mitchell and Tyler (Candie) Earl of Mitchell; grandchildren, James Brown, Paris Earl, Kody Earl, Harli Earl, and Waylon Earl; sister, Angie (Adrian) Slaughter of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.          

His parents and brother, David Earl, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 6, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Rick Leach officiating.  Burial will be at Talbott Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.

    I worked with Doug at Visteon/Ford and was saddened to hear of his passing. He always had a wonderful sense of humor and made the workday bearable. I am sorry for your loss.

    Condolences to the family. Doug was a great guy who will not be forgotten. We always enjoyed talking to him at ballparks and such. No matter who it was during our travel ball tournaments, Doug would cheer and encourage them to do their best. R.I.P Doug, you will never be forgotten.
