MITCHELL — Fay Hutchison Russell, Jr., 88, passed away Thursday evening, August 24, 2017, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born April 6, 1929, in Mitchell, he was the son of Fay Frank and Lucille (Hutchison) Russell. He married Metta Ruth Lane and she preceded him in death. He and Eva (Newlin) Cornwell were married June 27, 1981.

Fay retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center—Crane and was a farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and enjoyed euchre, basketball, baseball, and reading Western stories.

Fay was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Russell of Mitchell; children, Gary Lynn (Debra) Russell of Orleans, James Anthony Russell of Mitchell, and Linda Susan (Roland) Atchison of Mitchell; stepsons, John Paul (Anita) Cornwell of Indianapolis and James Floyd (Kathy) Cornwell of Carmichael, California; brother, John Wesley Russell of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.

His parents; wife, Metta Ruth Russell; and stepson, Gregory Dean Cornwell, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 27, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
