MITCHELL — Irvin Eugene “Gene” Chitwood, 75, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital. 

Born October 27, 1939, in Brushy, Missouri, he was the son of Irvin E. and Goldie Rae (Woods) Chitwood.  He married Victoria Sue Johnson February 9, 1976.

He retired from the CSX Railroad as train master and was of the Methodist faith.  He was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F&AM.

Gene was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.

                    children, Lisa Chitwood-Ward and husband, Mark, East Peoria,Illinois
                                         Martin Karr and wife, Wahneta, Plainfield
                                         Todd Karr and wife, Tara, Greenfield
                                         7 grandchildren
                                       12 great grandchildren
                                dog, Casey

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Jim Russell officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
