Joan Ramey Fletcher, 88, of Carmel, passed away December 31, 2023.

She was born April 24, 1935 in Mitchell, Indiana to the late Clayton and Evangeline (Lewis) Ramey.

Joan was a graduate of Mitchell High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Indiana University where she was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. She married David A. Fletcher, and was an elementary school teacher in Mitchell, Indiana and Tacoma, Washington. Joan left teaching to fulfill her most treasured role of wife, mother, and grandmother. She also enjoyed memberships in the Tri Kappa Philanthropic Sorority and the Stansfield Circle Group.

Joan is survived by her sons, Mark Allen Fletcher and John David (Kristine) Fletcher; grandchildren, Clayton Allen (Ellie) Fletcher, Kyle David (Bridget) Fletcher, Broc Harrison Fletcher, and Haylie Evangeline Fletcher; and great-grandson, Murphy David Fletcher. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, David A. Fletcher; brother, Larry (Jan) Ramey; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert (Maralyn) Burton.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, at Jacob Finger United Methodist Church.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the NIL for Indiana University Football and/or the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Joan was my dear, sweet 1st cousin---we shared our grandmother Lewis, and the same birthrate. Even though we did not see each other often, she was who I looked up to. Friends are forever, cousins are for life.
