MITCHELL – Myrlen W. Hunter, 81, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2013, at White River Lodge in Bedford.
Born September 4, 1931, in Washington, Indiana, he was the son of M. Victor and Lucille (Jones) Hunter. He married Sherlia A. Mundy August 14, 1952.
Myrlen graduated from Mitchell High School in 1949, and after serving in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, he enrolled in Purdue University and graduated in 1958 with a degree in pharmacy. He owned Burton City Drug Store in Mitchell for several years.
He served as treasurer of the Persimmon Festival and the Mitchell Chamber of Commerce for 18 years and was also a director of the Bedford Regional Medical Center. He served on the boards of the Marion Township Fire Department, Mitchell High School Alumni Association, Mitchell Public Library, and Hoosier Uplands. He was a member of the First Christian Church, County, State, and National Pharmacy Associations, American Legion Post No. 250, and a Life Member of Purdue University Alumni. Myrlen was on the board and president of the Lawrence County Health Department.

His parents; great granddaughter, Alexa Karri Doyle; son-in-law, Jim Doyle; father-in- law and mother-in-law, Joe and Vida Mundy; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe B. and Josephine Mundy, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 25, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Bro. Mike Collins officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
Friends may call 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
