MITCHELL – Phyllis Anne Ratliff, 85, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025, at IU Health Hospice House.
Born September 22, 1940, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Elmer Caesar and Ethel Pauline (Baker) Walls. She married James Lewis Ratliff on April 16, 1960 and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2018.
Phyllis was a 1958 graduate of Bloomington High School. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant View Church of Christ. Phyllis enjoyed sewing and tending to her flowers. She was very family oriented and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren – and she was a big hugger.
Survivors include her children, Anita Lynn (Darren) Harrell of Bedford, Anthony “Tony” Guy Ratliff of Bedford, and Anne Janette (Chris) Mullins of Mitchell; grandchildren, Nathan Harrell, Ethan (Audrey) Harrell, Brandon Harrell, Kayla Ratliff, Emily (Zach) Evans, Audrey (Brady) Wilson, and Amelia Mullins; and great-grandchildren, Tucker Evans, Abby Evans, Holly Evans, Seth Evans, Eliana Wilson, and Wendy Harrell.
Her parents; husband; and brothers, Doyle Baker Walls and Lloyd Sherwood Walls, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Walter Hunter and Brother Don White officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon until the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
