MITCHELL – Roberta Jean Freeman, 89, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at Mitchell Manor.
Born May 27, 1929, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Noah Sampson and Bessie Mae (Tolbert) Grimes. She married Rex Albert Freeman November 25, 1950, and he preceded her in death January 10. 2006.
Roberta had been a telephone operator during the World War II and was a homemaker. She attended the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene and was a graduate of Mitchell High School in 1947. Roberta loved birds, crocheting, reading, puzzles, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Mary Rahn and Dean Franklin “Frank” Grimes, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Joel Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
