My apologies that this is long overdo....as I made family favorites of Betty's sweet potato casserole and her russian teacakes this holiday, I fondly remembered my time at BJHS teaching next door to her. Her guidance was so helpful, her wonderful laughter was infectious and her integrity was unmatched. Peace be with Betty and her family.

David and Linda, Mrs. Mitchell was one of my teachers but she was also a friend. I got to know her better outside of the classroom and found that she was a wonderful person with a witty and fantastic personality. She had an infectious laugh and I really enjoyed knowing her. Please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. Terry Thurman

Betty "Mrs. Mitchell" was one of my favorite teachers. Her no nonsense teaching methods were so intimidating-at first- just to find out she was such a kind sweetheart. I loved her and so did many other students. This world is a better place because we were taught by this wonderful lady!

We always loved seeing Betty at family parties and holidays, especially when our kids and Turney children were younger. Her smile was contagious, her wit was sharp, and her kindness was wonderful. Our sympathy to our special friends.

Mrs. Mitchell's presence in my life was profound. No words can relay the impact she had on my adolescent and young adult development. I still default to a Mrs. Mitchell piece of wisdom threading through my memories. This fine teacher made a significant difference to me. By extension, she makes a difference to my children and grandchildren. Well done, Mrs. Mitchell! This one earns you a celestial sticker.

Betty Joe was my English teacher when I was in the 8th grade at Oolitic. I enjoyed her so much. Her southern accent was a delight especially when she said the word 'hurricane'. I loved it! I saw her years later in a local store. She spoke and called me by name. I couldn't believe that she recognized and remembered me. I know you'll miss her.
