MITCHELL – Catherine L. Thompson, 90, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.
Born February 18, 1924, in Mitchell, she was the daughter of William Roscoe and Ruby Rebecca (Price) Baldwin. She married William Jasper Thompson June 22, 1946, and he preceded her in death February 4, 1995.
She was a homemaker and had been employed at Trav-Ler Radio Corporation. She was the Spice Valley correspondent for more than 35 years for The Mitchell Tribune and the Orleans Progress Examiner. Catherine graduated from Mitchell High School in 1941 and was a long time member of Spice Valley Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and belonged to the Ladies Missionary Society. She was a member of the Spice Valley Homemakers Club. Catherine was the heart of her home, a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbor, and friend.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Spice Valley Baptist Church with Reverend Lewis Williams, Reverend Ron Allender, and Reverend Dwight Dunbar officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church.
