MITCHELL – Connie Jo Smith, 68, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at her residence.

Born February 13, 1955, in Seymour, she was the daughter of  Murvin Elmo and Mildred Anne (Wade) Chastain.  Connie married Larry Wayne Smith on August 9, 1980 and he survives.

Connie was a 1973 graduate of Mitchell High School and earned her Associate’s Degree from Vincennes University.  She retired from Crane Army Ammunition Activity.  Connie was a member of Fishing Creek Church. Her greatest joy was being “Nana” and spoiling her grandkids. She was also an avid Colt’s fan.

Surviving are her: husband, Larry Wayne Smith of Mitchell; son, Jacob Dewayne (Caitlin) Smith of Mitchell; grandchildren, Harrison Wayne Smith and Reagan Rose Smith; siblings, Michael (Anne) Chastain of Culver, Teresa Chastain of Mitchell, and Darrin (Kim) Chastain of Mitchell.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brothers Mike and Darrin Chastain officiating.  Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial Gifts:  Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services or White River Humane Society.
