BEDFORD – Daniel Eugene Bush, 54, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023, at University of Louisville Hospital.

Born May 27, 1968, in Mitchell, he was the son of Elmer Floyd Bush and Rita Joreen (Porter) Nash.

Dan was a 1986 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.  He loved woodworking, fishing, and fried chicken.  Dan worked as the Maintenance Supervisor for Lawrence County, but he was so much more than that.  If you saw the star lit up at the square – Dan did that. If you marveled at the flag waving at the courthouse – Dan did that. If you ever needed a smile – Dan did that too.  He will live on through his children, grandson, friends, and the community through his passions and projects.

Surviving are his children, Kylee Daniele (Peter) Boyll of Indianapolis, Tyson Andrew Terry of Mitchell, and Lynley Michele Bush of Bloomington; grandson, Asa Terry; siblings, David Ferrel of Alexandria, Dana (Kent) White of Bedford, Joseph Bush of Bedford, Stephen Bush of Mitchell, and Chris (Jennifer) Bush of Mitchell; and mother,  Rita Joreen Nash of Mitchell.    He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His father preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Bedford First Assembly of God Church, 2601 27th Street, Bedford, with Pastor Steve Terry officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church.

Dan, thank you for being 100 percent who God made you to be. You set the bar for a hard worker, for touching other lives with kindness, sweetness, and your humor and forever smile. Knowing Where you are gives comfort. But, you certainly will be missed.

Dan was my neighbor on Riverview. When Tony bought my husbands old farm truck, it was loaded up over the cab with junk and things Jesse brought here when we moved. Jesse had Alzheimer’s and was in memory care. I asked Dan and Tony to give me a couple of days to unload it as I am in my 70’s. Dan told me not to touch a thing, he would do it all. And he did. What a wonderful person he wad! Also, I went to school with Oneita and I knew Elmer. Wonderful family all! So sorry for the loss. Love and prayers.

My deepest sympathy to you all. I wish you all strength in your mind, peace in your heart. I did not have the pleasure of meeting Dan. We had some wonderful chats via media. I have a greater understanding who my friend was and how many people's lives he touched. He is now flying with 'Old Glory'. The pain we feel now will change to great memories. Go in peace and Love to you all. Dave
