PEKIN – David Eugene Darnell, 62, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital in Salem.
Born July 30, 1961, in Bedford, he was the son of Norman and Judith (Kline) Darnell.
David was a 1979 graduate of Mitchell High School and later obtained a Masters Degree. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and had been stationed in Augsburg, Germany, serving in several leadership, technical, and educational positions. David was an Electric and Chemical Engineer having worked at the Essex company and retired from the Valeo Sylvania company in Seymour. He had been an ordained minister in the Church of God denomination and had served churches for 20 years. David loved music, target shooting, deer hunting, and writing essays in his spare time. He played football and participated in track and field while in high school and enjoyed physical fitness.
Survivors include his daughter, Erica (Brandon) Cooper of Louisville; grandson, Ace Michael Cooper of Louisville; brother, and Brian (Julie) Darnell of Heltonville; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and sister, Carol Stinson, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
