BLOOMINGTON – David Loy Mitchell, 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at his residence.

Born August 28, 1939, in Mitchell, he was the son of Andrew and Elsie Eva (Clouse) Mesarosh.  He married Norma Kay Halverstadt.

David was a US Army veteran stationed in South Korea.  He received his bachelor’s degree from Point Loma University in 1965.  David was a teacher at Phoenix Christian High School, owned a printing business in Lancaster, California for nineteen years, and was a pastor in the Nazarene Church for over twenty years.  He loved playing basketball and also refereed games.  He retired as pastor at the Shoals Church of the Nazarene.  As a child David fell out of a moving car, but he survived and then remembered the verse “Jesus wept.”  He decided to serve the Lord and dedicated himself to helping others and spreading the word of God as his life’s pursuit.  He and his wife, Norma, traveled the world on mission to translate the Bible into languages that have yet to have translations printed.  Together they sought to bring the Word of God to unreached peoples.  David worked on multiple Bible translations for Wycliffe Bible Translators over the years and made multimedia presentations in many different churches.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Kay Mitchell of Bloomington; children, Carol (Charles) Linnell of Valdez, Alaska, Keith (Jenny) Mitchell of Ladera Ranch, California, Kimberly (Mike) Veasy of Palm Bay, Florida; grandchildren, Robert Stark, Tiffani Le Bouef, and Ron Veasy; great-grandchildren, Madisyn Stark, Hunter Carlson, Wesley Le Bouef, James Le Bouef, Wesley Stark, Wade Stark, Declan Stark, and Daniel Stark; siblings, Phillip (Maria) Mesarosh of Prescott, Arizona and Stephen Mesarosh of Peachtree City, Georgia.

His parents; granddaughter, Savanna Bearman; and sister, Nancy Mesarosh, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Tim Crump officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene.
