MITCHELL – Dorothy Marie Carroll, 88, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born November 6, 1935, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Hubert and Georgie (White) Atchison.  She married Donald “Don” Bruce Carroll on June 11, 1960 and he survives.

Dorothy was a cashier at Jay-C Food Stores for 25 years and tour director for D & D Travel for 37 years. She was a 1955 graduate of Huron High School and was active with the Huron Alumni Association. Dorothy was a member of Bryantsville Church of Christ, a former chaperone for the Orleans band, and affiliated with Orange County 4-H.

Survivors include her husband, Don Carroll of Mitchell; grandsons, Kyle Carroll of Paoli and C. J. Carroll of Mitchell; eleven great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

Her parents; son, Kevin Don Carroll; and brothers, John Atchison, Kenneth Eugene Atchison, Hubert Roland “Peanut” Atchison, and James Ott Atchison, preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 1, at Mitchell Cemetery with Brother Don White officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

    Very, very sorry to hear. Dorothy was my favorite Aunt/Relative. She was always there for me, went above and beyond when i was growing up. She was truly a wonderful, Kind hearted soul. I am very, very grateful to of had her in my life. Best wishes to Don and the family. I was unable to pay my respects due to the fact that i was not notified of till Sat. Feb. 3rd. Through this text. You tell me if it is right to deny a blood relative the opportunity to come to a funeral? My mother and sister knew and held it from me cause they were mad at me. Just thought u should know ur Aunt Dorothy Carroll is gone. Everyone on ur Dad,s side is gone now. Died on the 29th of January & funeral in the 1st of February. I don't guess u will b man enough t apologize & mean the things u said. I'm happy the way I am. Not changing 4 anyone. We didn't know about it till the 30th. No one had contacted us.just lucky I seen it & we paid our respects. Seen the 2 grandsons & some of there kids. Each has 6 kids. Wasn't a lot of people there. Luv Mom

    My mother, Mary, went on several of Dorothy's trips that she sponsored...they always had a good time and good memories..I always enjoyed talking with her ...she loved to talk about her involvement with the Huron Alumni Assoc.
