ORLEANS – Dorothy Sue Hurst, 69, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Mitchell Manor.

Born June 21, 1955, in Richwood, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Herman and Betty (Hinkle) Hurst.

Dorothy worked as a plumber for 25 years. She loved to read.

Surviving are her daughter, April Michele Parsons of Connecticut; grandchildren, Bartholomew and Benjamin; seven sisters; and four brothers.

Her parents and brother, Joe Hurst, preceded her in death.

Cremation has been chosen.

Dorothy and I met at WV Tech.in Montgomery WV. She and I gave birth to our daughters within days of each other. She encouraged me when I attempted nursing. Over the years we shared many adult daughter stories. I fondly remember the beach trip we took with our (now ex) spouses. What fun! Dorothy was very proud of April's many accomplishments and she dearly loved and was equally proud of her grandsons. Dorothy was a very intelligent woman and an extremely hard worker. And her love for reading was bar none. I'm grateful for our decades long friendship and deeply regret losing touch with her in 2025. I'm deeply saddened to learn of her passing. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dorothy was a very nice lady and was great with kids. She took on several roles in life that most women don’t such as coal miner and plumber. A very good person we have lost
