BEDFORD Emily R. Gilbert, 77, Bedford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Home.
Born October 30, 1931, in Torrance, California, she was the daughter of Ward Milton and Elsa Evelyn (Knape) Melton. She married James Theodore Gilbert March 27, 1948 in Yuma, Arizona.
She worked at Bedford Regional Medical Center from the time they opened in 1970 until she retired in 1995. Prior to this she also worked at M. F. and Son in Bedford and the Plastic Factory in Medora.
Emily was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess. She and her husband danced with the Spring Mill Squares and the Stone City Squares. She belonged to the Spring Mill Stitchers, and Quarry Quilters.

Her parents; son, Jeff Gilbert; and a brother, William Melton, preceded her in death.
She leaves behind numerous beautiful quilts and hand work that she has done through the years along with wonderful recipes she shared. She had a wit that always brought a smile to your face.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at the First Baptist Church in Mitchell with Rev. Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Dixon Chapel/Proctor Cemetery in Fort Ritner.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Chastain Funeral Home, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the church.
