MITCHELL – Gerald Dean Speer, 65, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023, at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Born June 11, 1957, in Bedford, he was the son of Ernest Gerald and Barbara Sue (Brown) Speer. He married Catherine Ann Weaver on July 28, 1979, and she survives.

Gerald worked as a truck driver at Flynn & Sons. He loved fishing, preaching at churches, and being with his grandkids.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Speer of Mitchell; sons, Jeremy Dean Speer of Mitchell and Justin (Michal) Speer of Mitchell; grandchildren, Ezekial Speer, Elisha Speer, Enoch Speer, and one on the way; siblings, Ernest Dale Speer of Mitchell and Diane (Doug) Mitchner of Ellettsville.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Curtis Pruett officiating.  Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
