MITCHELL – Howard Augustus Fields, 93, passed away Sunday evening, October 30, 2016, at Johnson Christian Village in Bedford.

Born October 18, 1923, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George and Stella (Bass) Fields.  He was married to Dorothy Brown and Wilma Ragsdale, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was a 1941 graduate of Mitchell High School and a graduate of Heritage Bible College.  Howard was manager of many grocery stores including JayC, Loudens, Mitchell Meat Market, and he retired from Porky Lane Super Market in Indianapolis.  Howard also was employed at the Orleans Progress Examiner.  He was a long time member of the Capital City Baptist Church and currently a member of the First Baptist Church.

Howard was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

His parents; stepdaughters, Brenda Fisher and Joyce Williams; and siblings, Ellen Sheeks, Addie Darnell, Gladys Busick, Marie Burton, Lawrence Fields, Jesse Fields, and Sue Patton, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 3, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Reggie Clark and Terry Myers officiating.  Burial will be in Bass Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
