MITCHELL James I. Ely, 84, Mitchell, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at St. Vincent Dunn Hospital in Bedford.

Born January 16, 1927, in Bell County, Kentucky, he was the son of Nathaniel and Sallie (Scott) Ely. He married Deanna Kay Luchauer January 16, 1981.

He was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

James was a coal miner.

Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
