MITCHELL – James “Jimmy” Lee Karr, 83, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026, at his residence surrounded by family.

Born July 8, 1942, in Mitchell, he was the son of James Edward and Violet Mae (Cooper) Karr.  He married Christine Reed “Reedie” Karr on September 15, 1965, and she survives.

Jimmy was a 1961 graduate of Mitchell High School. He started working for Public Services Indiana and retired after 42 years with Duke Energy. Jimmy was a member of the First Christian Church of Mitchell and Moorseville Masonic Lodge No. 78. He loved farming and was also a member of the Lawrence County Saddle Club and Lawrence County Cattleman’s Association. Jimmy was a gentleman’s gentleman that believed in a good handshake.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Reed Karr of Mitchell; sons, Shawn Lee (Melody) Karr of Mitchell, Kevin Jay Karr of Mitchell, and Jason Reed (Stephanie) Karr of Mitchell; grandchildren, Nicholas (Abby) Karr, Emily (Kayla) Bero, Austin Karr, Abby Karr, and Cole Karr; and five great grandchildren.

His siblings, Danny Karr, Connie Williams, and Bobby Karr, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at the First Christian Church with Pastor Brian Bolton officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.

    I knew Jim when he would come into the Columbus office. He was the funniest, kindest biggest tease ever. He was always a good friend and was so proud of his family. Reedy - he always spoke so loving of you and your kids. Rest in God’s loving arms Jimmy!

    Sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. Many good memories of adventures we had together. He was an usher at my wedding and he was instrumental in assisting with attempts to form a youth football program, just to name a few. There are people in your life that you never forget and he is certainly one of mine. Condolences to Reedie and family. RIP, Jim!
