MITCHELL – James Stanley Mundy, Sr., 85, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at his residence.

Born October 24, 1938, in Huron, he was the son of George and Blanche (King) Mundy. He married Barbara Jean Goldsberry on May 18, 1962 and she preceded him in death February 26, 2020.

James worked for National Gypsum in the board plant, retiring after 44 years in 2004. He was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ. James was an avid fisherman. He loved putting up Christmas lights and tinkering in the garage.

Surviving are his children, Sheri Ellen (Kyle) Mundy of Mitchell, Sandra Jeanenne (John) Abel of Shoals, and James Stanley (Amy) Mundy, Jr. of Shoals; eleven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Tolbert of Williams; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

His parents; wife; grandsons, Waylon Abel and Derek Abel; great-grandson, Porter Winginer; brothers, Kenneth Mundy, Dorrie G. Mundy, and Norman Darrell Mundy; and brother-in-law, Herald Tolbert, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Kris Beasley officiating. Burial will be at Clark Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

    Always remember Papaw Earl stopping and talking to Jim. Also Jim and Barbara stopping in once in a while to visit them. Papaw and Jim fishing, talking about work and family. Sorry for ur loss. He will be missed.

    Thanks for sharing Jim (& Barbara) with our family. Enjoyed seeing them when they visited and the fish dad and Jim brought in. Loved hearing the Gypsum and fishing stories. Thoughts and Prayers for the family. RIP Jim until we meet again.
