MITCHELL – John Raymond “Shorty” Tanksley, 95, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020, at his residence.
Born in Mitchell, he was the son of Roy Noble and Ruby (Taylor) Tanksley. He married Betty Ann Brooks July 27, 1945, and she preceded him in death January 13, 2017.
Raymond retired from Carpenter Body Works and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1944 and was recipient of the Oral Dalton Award. He loved to garden and loved his pets.

His parents; wife; and siblings, Ruth Sipes, Rowenna Elrod, Roland Tanksley, Ronald Tanksley, Roy K. Tanksley, Russell Tanksley, and Rex Tanksley, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 5, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
