MITCHELL  –  John Russell, Jr. passed away in his home after complications from recent illness and heart issues on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.

Born September 17, 1934, in Lawrence County, he was the son of John and Edna Mae (Terry) Russell.  He married Sharon Ann Mounce June 1, 2012.

John was a proud Army veteran, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  During his service he earned several commendations, while reaching the rank of Corporal. 

He spent the rest of his life providing for his family while living in Louisiana  before returning to his hometown to retire and enjoy his remaining years.  John was a member of the Higher Ground United Pentecostal Church in French Lick.

His parents; infant daughter, Rita Russell; and sister, Rose Marie Johnson, preceded him in death.

Graveside service was at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, at Mitchell Cemetery.  Brother Brian Harrison officiated.   Military honors were accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
