MITCHELL – Joseph Paul Jones, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Indiana University Health Hospice House.
Born October 3, 1937, in Lawrence County, he was the son of David Crockett and Sylvia (Tincher) Jones.
Joseph worked as a machine operator for U.S. Gypsum, and retired after 33 years. He enjoyed attending car shows where he would show off the “true love of his life,” a 1974 red Chevy Nova. He was an active member of the Mitchell Senior Citizens, spending every Friday and Saturday nights dancing. Joseph had a great love for all things Elvis Presley. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his children, Joseph Paul Jones II of Mitchell, and Eric (Chrissy) Jones of Springville; grandchildren, Heather M. Staggs of Bloomington, Kayla M. (A.J.) Burgi of Mitchell, and Alisha R. Jones of Syracuse, Indiana; three great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild; siblings, Roberta Tow of Bedford, and Jonny Jones of Mitchell; and longtime girlfriend, Ella Mae Dillard of Orleans.
His parents and siblings, Albert “Delbert” Jones, Betty Stancomb, Joyce Jones, Mary Jones, Elsie Irwin, Thelma Jones, and George Jones, preceded him in death.
Funeral Service will be at 4:00p.m. Saturday April 1st, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Stephen Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until the time of service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 24, 2023 at Mitchell Cemetery, with Pastor Stephen Jones officiating. Burial to follow.
