MITCHELL – Joseph Wilson Terry, 79, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at his residence.

Born December 10, 1939, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Lavere and Mabel (Baldwin) Terry.  He married Janet Gayle Shoopman December 12, 1969, and she preceded him in death October 13, 2013.

Joe retired from U. S. Gypsum and was of the Christian faith.  He loved the outdoors, tractors, and being with his grandchildren.  Joe was a U. S. Army veteran.

His parents; wife; and siblings, Pearl Duncan and Everett “Pat” Terry, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 22, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9107.

The family will receive friends from noon until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

    We are so very sorry to hear of this. Joe was a wonderful neighbor and friend to us for the last 6 years since we moved down the road from him. We will miss him so very much. We send our condolences to his family and pray for God's wonderful comfort at this time for all who knew Joe and cared for him.
