MITCHELL – Judith Ann Williams, 87, Mitchell, passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at her residence.

Born October 26, 1936, in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Menlo Austin and Wilma Mae (McNeely) Chastain. She married Jack E. Williams February 4, 1956 in Chicago and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2008.

As a girl, Judith lived in Tennessee, Alabama, and Indiana.  Judith and her parents returned to Mitchell in 1943. Judith was active in Girl Scouts and was a Mitchell High School Twirler, and she graduated in 1954. Judith married Jack E. Williams on February 4, 1956 in Chicago, IL, where she was employed, before moving to Terre Haute, IN where Jack attended Indiana State Teacher’s College and Judith worked for Rich Brothers Drills. Judith would never lose her love of the city of Chicago.

Employed by Hancock Construction in Mitchell, IN, Judith gave birth to Jackson Jay Williams on September 14, 1961 while her husband was in the service. She moved with her family to Geneva, IL in 1966 where she was a homemaker, den mother, hockey mom, friend, wife and partner of Jack E. Williams. She enjoyed bicycling, skiing, canoeing, and outings with the Burgess-Norton family but most of all she enjoyed her holidays and small gatherings with her family and friends. Judith was employed as a bookkeeper by Marsh Products, Inc of Batavia, IL from 1973 – 1986.  Judith and Jack returned to their hometown of Mitchell, IN in 1991.

Judith became an active member of the First Baptist Church in Mitchell, IN. She was also a member of Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority and active in Mitchell on the Move. Judith loved and enjoyed her immediate and extended family and friends. She treasured her life in Mitchell and never tired of telling stories of the town and the people who lived there.

Surviving is her son, Jackson J. Williams of Mitchell.

Her husband; parents; and two brothers, Christopher and Peter Stephen, preceded her in death.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Rev. Reggie Clark officiating.  Burial will follow at Lawrenceport Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Monday, December 11 and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jay, We were sorry to hear of your mother's passing. I absolutely loved being Judy's neighbor when we lived there on Oak Street, next door, and being a Tri Kappa sister with her. The conversations I had with Judy were always fun and uplifting. What a wonderful person she was. Jay, I know she loved you dearly and you were a great son to her. God bless and guide you, Bill and Cindy

Jay, We are so sorry to hear of Judy's passing. We wanted to attend the visitation, however, COVID has come to our household so we were unable to attend in person. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family and numerous friends. She is very dear to us. Eddie was very glad he got to see and talk to her at the festival parade this past September. We will miss her and especially the lovely cards she would send to say she cared.
