Judith “Judy” Ann Wood passed away November 19, 2022 at home in Massillon, Ohio with her husband and daughter by her side. Despite living with the pain and mobility issues of Rheumatoid Arthritis for many years, Judy did her very best to live her life to the fullest.

Judy was born September 20, 1943 in Mitchell, Indiana to Ralph and Kathryn (Burton) Nolan. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1961 and met her husband, Larry Wood, that same year, at the annual Persimmon Festival in Mitchell. They both were attending school in Indianapolis and one weekend, Judy needed a ride home. Larry happily obliged and as he puts it, “they have been riding together ever since”.

Larry and Judy married on April 4, 1964. They loved each other for over sixty-one years and were married for fifty-eight and a half years. They had three children together (Kenneth Edward, Jeffrey Dale, and Susan Leann) and spent their life living wherever Larry’s career with the railroad took them.

Judy earned her associates degree in Early Childhood Education. She worked for several years in Sacramento, California as the Preschool Director at Foothill Farms Baptist Church. But the jobs she loved the most were being a Mom, Mamaw, wife, and homemaker. Judy was a phenomenal cook and the family always said there was no better “restaurant” than Judy’s kitchen.

Judy’s life journey allowed her to live in and see many parts of the US. The family enjoyed camping and Judy especially loved the California Redwoods, the Pacific Ocean, and the mountains. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, and attending concerts and plays.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Larry; son, Jeffrey Wood and wife, Teresa; and daughter, Susan Wood and fiancé, Mike Olsen; three grandchildren, Nathan Wood, Alex Wood, Collin Tallinger; two great-grandchildren, Gracelynn Wood and Grayson Tallinger; sister, Carolyn Sims and husband, John; great friends, German shepherd Kelly and cats, Cole and Chessie.

She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Wood; parents, Ralph and Kathryn Nolan; brother, Donald Nolan and wife, Hilda; and sister, Martha Tritle and husband, Bob.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. Judy will be laid to rest next to her son, Kenneth, in Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Ohio and Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Mitchell, Indiana.

I can't believe it's been almost an entire year since you went to live in heaven. I know with all my heart, that you haven't really left and are with us everyday. But I miss you, Mom. More than I can express. I love you and I'll see you later.

So sorry to hear of Judy's passing. I have many memories of our school years. Spent overnight visits in her home several times. We were good friends growing up but as time passed our lives changed. I'm so glad she got to attend our 50th class reunion. So glad we can look back to memories. Good times.

I grew up with the Nolan girls. We rode on the same bus for many years. They had a long walk down the driveway like we did. I know Martha’s children and met Carolyn and Judy again at Martha’s funeral. My condolences to you all. You are a special family and I know you will miss your lovely Judy. God bless.

To the entire Wood family and friends: I am so sorry for your loss! Judy was a great wife, mom, mamaw, and friend to all that knew her. Even when disabled by arthritis, she maintained a sense of grace and power to endure. She will be missed but heaven gained a good one and I’m sure she will continue to look over y’all from behind the pearly gates.

I’m so sorry for your loss Larry. You and Judy took me in and treated me like one of your own children when I needed it the most at that time of my life. She encouraged me with my art and made sure to be at every one of my basketball games even when you were unable to come due to having to be out of town for work.I still to this day tell people how Judy made me Fried rice and her famous homemade biscuits every year for my birthday! I’m so very grateful and thankful to you and especially Judy for everything that the two of you did for me. RIP Judy, you are forever in my heart sweet lady!

Phyllis' and my hearts go out to you, Larry. We pray for God to welcome Judy in his loving embrace, and we pray for God's comfort for you until the two of you are reunited. I strongly suggest for you to not be in any hurry for your reunion, because you are a good person, and there are many friends and family who still need your encouragement and wisdom right here. This, my friend is a lesson I learned from my mother. God bless you.
