Born June 8, 1950, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, she was the daughter of Roy Lionel and Ruth Pauline (Altenberger) Minor.

Karen was a registered nurse and had been employed at St. Johns Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
