MITCHELL – Kermit P. Walker, 95, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2015, surrounded by family at his home.
Born October 21, 1919, in Mitchell, he was the son of John and Blanche (Dalton) Walker. He married Velma M. Barnes December 20, 1942, and she preceded him in death December 12, 2009.
He served honorably in the 9th Air Force of the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a 70 year member of American Legion Post No. 250 and a past member of the Mitchell Lions Club.
Kermit was proud of his contributions to the town of Mitchell which included construction and design for the Carpenter Body Works building, Tri Kappa building, Lehigh, and the former Roberts Brass Company to name a few. He developed the Walker Addition and the former JayC shopping center.

His parents; wife; and daughter, Vicky S. Kinney; preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Lee Hupp officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family will receive friends from noon until the service on Friday at the funeral home.
