BEDFORD – Larry Ray Tirey, 78, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Bedford.

Born March 17, 1943, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Henry and Ada (Smith) Tirey.  He married Shirley Ann Vaught December 23, 1967.

Larry retired from NWSC—Crane. He was a member of Dive Christian Church and NARFE. He was a 1961 graduate of Mitchell High School and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and mushroom hunting.  Larry was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving:             wife, Shirley Ann Tirey of Bedford

                       children, Susan L. (Daren) Eads of Bloomington

                                      J. Lynn (Trent) Middleton of New Albany

                                      Bret Tirey of Indianapolis

              grandchildren, Eric (Gabbie) Eads, Cheyenne Middleton, Dakota Middleton,

                                      Hope (Matthew) Hershey, and Luke (Hannah) Balaban

                       siblings, Don (Marilyn) Tirey of Oolitic

                                     Bobby (Pam) Tirey of Oolitic

                                      Rhea Dawn (Monte deceased) Anderson of Bedford

                                      several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great

                                     great nieces and nephews

His parents and siblings, Ella Pearl (Walt) Allbright, Mary Jane Tirey, John Henry (Mary Alice) Tirey, Alvy (Mildred) Tirey, Wayne (Charlotte) Tirey, Phyllis (Robert) Tucker, and Dee (Robert) Grubb; and sisters-in-law, Patty Jo Tirey and Roberta Tirey, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Joe P. McAdams officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.  Burial will be at a later date in Old Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
