MITCHELL – Leroy Taylor, 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Mitchell Manor Nursing Center.
Born September 30, 1934, in Lawrence County, he was the son of George Henry and Nina (Kines) Taylor. He married Eleanor F. Knight December 9, 1953.
Leroy retired from General Motors with 30 years of service, and after retirement worked at Bedford Ford. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1951 and served 20 years on the Mitchell City Council. Leroy was a member of Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F. & A.M. and a 60 year member of the Mitchell Church of the Nazarene. He was a Little League baseball coach, real estate agent, auctioneer, avid gardener, and past president of UAW Local No. 440. Leroy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

His parents, granddaughter, Melissa Dawn Taylor; and 11 siblings preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 11, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Joel Parsons officiating. Burial will be Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home. Mitchell Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M. will conduct a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
