MITCHELL – Linda Kay Godbey, 79, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Linda fought cancer for 16 years and was one of the strongest people you could ever meet. She fought until she had no more fight left.
Born August 28, 1946, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Robert L. Davis, Sr. and Stella E. (Meadows) Davis. She married Stanley W. Godbey on December 15, 1967 and he survives.
Linda was a 1964 graduate of Bedford High School. She worked at RCA and later was a secretary in the Dean’s office in the IU School of Public Health. Linda loved her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Stanley W. Godbey of Mitchell; children, Melissa J. (Joseph) Godsey of Mitchell and Jonathan Lee (Shannon) Godbey of Mitchell; grandchildren, Joseph Wade (Alyssa Bastin) Godsey of Bedford and Michael Lee Godbey of Mitchell; brothers, Gary A. (Brenda) Davis of Bedford, Steve (Sue) Davis of Spencer, and Thomas R. (Diane) Davis of Bedford; and sister-in-law, Linda Davis.
Her parents and brothers, Robert L. Davis, Jr. and James H. Davis, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Brian Bolton officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, and from 10:00 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
