MITCHELL Lucille Burgess, 96, Mitchell, passed away at 2:45 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2010, at Garden Villa in Bedford.

Born November 6, 1913, in Crawford County, she was the daughter of Ed and Agnes (Roberson) Velecin. She married Merrill Charles Burgess April 5, 1934, and he preceded her in death July 13, 1969.

She was a graduate of Orleans High School in the class of 1930 and attended business college in Denver, Colorado. Lucille was a homemaker and also worked at Mitchell’s Riley School and Bell’s Mendit Shop. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell, Fleur-de-Lis, and served as a Girl Scout leader and room mother. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafting, and lovingly caring for her family.

Lucille’s memory will be cherished by her two sons:
Charles Edwin Burgess and wife, Ann, Brownstown
William E. Burgess, D.D.S. and wife, Marie, Brownstown
two daughters:
Barbara Ann Sorrells and husband, Dr. George, Mitchell
Marilyn Jean Sadek and husband, Jerry, Bedford
sister:
Ruth Stalcup, Paoli
She was a loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

Her parents; husband; sister, Mildred Kowalczyk; and grandson, Kevin Burgess, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 13, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Dailey officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

The family wishes to acknowledge the love and care by the staff of Garden Villa, and all of her personal caregivers.
