MITCHELL M. Evalou Suddarth, 98, Mitchell, passed away at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.

Born October 26, 1910, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Edward and Miriam (Reynolds) Slaughter. She married Wilfred O. Suddarth June 3, 1933, and he preceded her in death September 8, 2008.

She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1930 and was a member of the First Christian Church in Mitchell and the Dorcas Circle. She was inducted into the Order of the Eastern Star No. 503 in 1943, graduated from the B Bar B Square Dancing School in 1959, and along with her husband was presented the Key to the City of Mitchell in 1983. During her long life she worked at M. Fine & Son, Reliance Manufacturing, Trav-Ler Radio Corporation, and served many years on the Republican election board, and retired from the Marion Township Accessor’s office at age 79.

Her parents; husband; six brothers, Elbert (Bud), Wilbert (Wib), Roscoe (Toad), Samuel, Edward (Dick), and Henry Slaughter; 6 nephews, 1 niece, and 2 great nieces, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Brother Josh Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Talbott Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Monday and from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
