ORLEANS – Mary Alice Coots Mann, 101, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Mitchell Manor.

Born June 14, 1924, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Samuel Leroy and Nellie Ann (Phipps) Coots.  She married Wayne Mann on July 24, 1943, and was a devoted farmer’s wife for 34 ½ years until his death on January 1, 1978.

Over the years, Mary Alice worked for Crawford-Morris Lumber Co., Reynolds, Inc., and the First National Bank of Mitchell.  She enjoyed quilting and opened the Quilt Lady Shop in downtown Mitchell until later moving it to her home.  Mary Alice was also a founding member of the Spring Mill Stitchers. She was a former member of the American Legion Post No. 250 Auxiliary and the Marion Township Rural Fire Department Board of Directors and also the Auxiliary.   Mary Alice was a member of the Fishing Creek Chapel Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Waneta (Jim) Wires;  granddaughter, Jamie Wires; great-grandsons, Jason (Hannah) Mosier and Jacob (Hannah) Wires; three great-great-grandchildren; step-great-grandson, Corey (Alyssa) Fullen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her parents; husband; and siblings, Edith Coots in childhood, Ernest Coots, Louis Coots, Helen Coots Rightley, Lester Coots, Charles Coots, and Clarence Coots, preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be held 11:00am, Friday, September 26, at Mitchell Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Marion Township Rural Fire Department or Fishing Creek Chapel.
