Mary O. Harrison, 82, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Dec. 13, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Mary was born in Mitchell to Bessie Muriel Chastain on March 10, 1929, but was raised by her grandparents, Sanford and Winnie Chastain, after her mother’s death. Mary was a 1947 graduate of Mitchell High School.
Mary was married to Charles Robert Harrison shortly after her graduation in 1947, and they divorced in 1963. She later was married to Harry C. Harrison in 1973. Each of them preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Elissa Lindsey, and son-in-law, Richard E. Lindsey of Fishers, IN; two granddaughters Kaitlin (Tim ) Brodnik and April (Brad) Looney; a grandson Richard C. Lindsey (Amy), five great-grandchildren, several cousins and an aunt.
Mary was a chairman of the Persimmon Festival in 1970. She loved co-ordinating events and was active in several social and volunteer organizations. She was also a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority during the time she lived in Mitchell.
Mary had also lived in El Paso and Dallas, TX and Albuquerque, NM for several years. She had worked in several different career fields, but most recently was retired from commercial property leasing.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Mary’s son-in-law, Rick, officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 18, from 2:00 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Any memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers & Dementia Foundation, the American Heart Association, or to the Humane Society of Indiana.
