MITCHELL – Gregory Dean Brewer, 69, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital, following a courageous battle with bladder cancer and pulmonary fibrosis.

Born April 12, 1956, in Bedford, he was the son of Clarence and Betty (Browning) Brewer.

Greg was a 1974 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He was a lifelong blue-collar worker at Carpenter Body Works in Mitchell and General Electric in Bloomington and Burlington, Iowa.  Greg was his happiest jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.  He loved sky-diving, fast motorcycles, and fast boats!  He enjoyed his dare-devil lifestyle and passed a lot of it on to his son.  Greg loved his kids and grandkids dearly and would help any stranger in need, anytime.

Surviving are his partner in life, Cathy Brewer of Mitchell; children, Audra (Jake) Gerkin of Mitchell and Adam (Autumn Hardwick) Brewer of Bedford; grandchildren, Madison Gerkin of Mitchell, Ethan Gerkin of Mitchell, Ella Gerkin of Mitchell, and Aubri Brewer of Boston, Kentucky; siblings, David Brewer of Orleans and Patricia Brewer of Paoli; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and siblings, Don Brewer and Connie Stone, preceded him in death.

Cremation has been chosen.

The family requests donations be made to the Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services and Riley Children’s Hospital in Greg’s memory.

A special thank you to the IU Health Oncology Department.
