BEECH GROVE Mary Pauline (Jean) Melvin Saylor, 103, of Beech Grove, Indiana, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2010, at Beech Grove Meadows Nursing Home.

Born August 2, 1907, in Mitchell, Indiana, she was the daughter of Charles Edmund Jean and Carrie Ola (Goldsmith) Jean. Her first husband, Otha R. Melvin and her second husband, Gilbert G. Saylor, preceded her in death.

She grew up in Spring Mill Village, that would later become Spring Mill State Park. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and having garage sales with proceeds donated to missions. Pauline was a longtime member of the Irvington Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Her parents; both husbands; sisters, Thelma Reynolds of Bedford, and Lorena Stevens of Mitchell; and brothers, Roscoe Jean and Edgar Jean of Mitchell, and Bill Jean of Bloomington, preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home, 705 West Warren Street, Mitchell, Indiana, with Pastor Fred Troxell officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
