MITCHELL – Mildred Anne (Wade) Chastain, 87, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, at StoneBridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born June 16, 1930, in northwestern Washington County, she was the daughter of Oscar Elmer and Mary Evaline (Phipps) Wade. She married Elmo Chastain December 25, 1950, in Campbellsburg with Elmo’s grandfather officiating. Elmo preceded her in death January 3, 2014.
She was educated in Washington County schools and graduated from Campbellsburg High School in 1949. Elmo and Mildred purchased a farm in southeastern Lawrence County in 1957 and remained there 56 years. The farming operation mainly involved raising corn, soybeans, hogs and cattle.
Mildred’s faith in Jesus Christ was evident throughout her teenage and adult years. She was a faithful member of the Fishing Creek Chapel congregation, attending over 60 years serving as secretary for many years and was a long time piano accompanist during services. Church members were truly an extended family as evidenced through the care, concern and visitations of Fishing Creek members that helped take her to services and meetings at church.
