Morris “Butch” Chastain, born October 2, 1945, stepped into Heaven on Saturday, January 23, 2021.  His parents were Charles Everett and Ethel Marie (Reynolds) Chastain and brothers are Charles Lee  “Chocky” Chastain  of Mitchell and Larry Dean Chastain, deceased.

 His wife, Nellotie “Nellie” (Porter) Chastain, survives. Married Feb.15, 1969, their lives were blessed with son, Sam (Ashley) Chastain, and daughter, Carol Marie (Troy) Lobosky, who blessed them with eight grandchildren. Cody Everett Chastain and Zane Patrick Lobosky welcomed their Papaw into Heaven. Surviving grandchildren are Samantha Dawn Chastain, Taylor Scott Lobosky, Caleb Wayne Lobosky and fiancé Darian Corra, Mitchell Ryan Lobosky, Emma Lynn Chastain, and Silas Wayne Chastain.

 Butch was a loyal, dependable, lovable father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He loved to talk about vehicles, attend races, tell stories, and spend coffee time with his friends and fish with his grandkids and brother. 

 Butch Chastain was a big man with a very big heart and always reached out to others. Each job he had, he loved, giving it his entire heart, especially driving the school bus.

 He loved his country, giving two years of service in Viet Nam. He taught his children and grandchildren that same love and respect. He always removed his hat, covering his heart for the flag.

 His great heart was for the City of Mitchell and the citizens of the city. His 25 years in the Police Department and eight years as the Mayor were spent encouraging the betterment of every aspect of the city.

 Anyone who knew Butch Chastain, knew him as a true man of God, a man of honesty, integrity, and honor. He lived by example and served by example.

 Morris “Butch” Chastain, a man who will never be forgotten.

 Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, at Mitchell Cemetery with Steve Dorsett officiating.  Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.   The Spring Mill Fraternal Order of Police No. 172 will conduct a memorial service.

    My wife and I were at spring mill state park one summer many yrs ago. We'll my chain broke. As I lived in Bloomington at the time. I was really stressed on what I was going to do. Suddenly this gentle giant of a man. Walked up, and in a very calming voice. Asked, ( ya having some trouble? Need some help? I replied, yes our chain broke. And I have no idea what we're do! He could tell I was very distraught. He said, now don't you worry. I'll run back to town n come back with what we'll need to get you fixed up. And this he did. Although this took place in late 80s. I have never forgotten this gentle giant of a man. With a heart just as big to match. N he wouldn't let me pay him. My eyes are wet as this takes me back to that very moment in time. To the family. I share in your grief. God Bless n comfort all of you, in this your time of greatest need. Most sincerely Rocky.

    Butch has been a friend for many years. A better man and Real Christian can not be found. The morning my Father passed away I had to continue my work and stopped by the parts store. He knew my heart was heavy and he gently guided me outside into the parking lot and prayed for me and my Father. How many really live their faith like Butch Chastain? Not enough. He touched my heart as he did for so many. I rarely ever saw him after that I did not have to hug him .A pure heart if ever there was and a great loss for so many.
