BEDFORD –N. Ruth Sorrells, 86, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Stonecroft Health Campus in Bloomington.
Born December 8, 1935, in Coffee County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Beulah (Wright) Brown. She married William “Bill” Bernard Sorrells November 24, 1956 in Bedford and he preceded her in death October 1, 1999.
Ruth was a homemaker and member of Huron Church of God. She loved to sew, crochet, embroider, and paint. Ruth enjoyed working in her garden and tending to her flowers. She was an ardent fan of words and spent hours doing crossword puzzles, writing in her journal (including her memoir), and translating “Tennessee Talk.” Ruth was an avid poetry writer, some of which were printed in the monthly newsletter at her residence. She filled many notebooks with her writing talent and love of words which were expressed in her poetry.
Survivors include her daughter, Kelly Smith of Mitchell; son, Brian Sorrells of Bedford; special niece, Cathy (Chuck) Burns of Bloomington and their family; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband and his family; siblings, Lucille Raines, Allie Shoults, Verna Sanders, Geneva Anderson, William “Bus” Brown and Donald Brown; and many, many friends preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Brian Bolton officiating. Burial will be at Huron Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
