MITCHELL — Norman T. “Bud” Root, 70, Mitchell, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010, at his residence.

Born September 5, 1939, in Mitchell, he was the son of James R. and Catherine (Riggs) Root. He married Connie J. Mitchell June 27, 1959.

He retired from Bedford Machine & Tool Company, was a former employee of Carpenter Body Works, and was a barber. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1958, and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Bud worked many years for the Clothe-a-Child project sponsored by the Varsity Club and was involved in the Softball League. Traveling and watching his grandchildren participate in sports was a favorite pastime. He was Santa’s Helper at Christmas parties, and continued his gift of helping throughout the years.

His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Hopkins and Rev. Bill Graham officiating.

Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. until the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be at 11:00 Wednesday at Mitchell Cemetery with Bro. Brian Bolton officiating.
