CAMPBELLSBURG – Phil S. Melton, 73, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born September 29, 1949, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Brance Allen Melton and Ethel “Essie” Florence (Thacker) Hackney. He married Lora Lee Page June 17, 2010 and she preceded him in death July 14, 2022.
Phil retired from Lehigh Cement Company, working as a dump truck driver. He was a member of the Steelworker’s Union Local 7-00030, Sons of American Legion Post 250, and Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9107. Phil enjoyed woodworking and hunting.
Surviving are his children, Adonica (Billy) Grissom of Mitchell, Philip Jacob (Melissa) Melton of Mitchell, Eli Brance (Hailey Lynn Brazzell) Melton of Campbellsburg, Shirley (Weston) Gabbard of Bedford, and Amanda Lynn (Jayce) Little of Bedford; grandchildren, Josh Grissom, Ethan Grissom, Keeley Goss, Savannah Riddle, Lacey Ryan, Nevin Mundy, Carson Brazzell, Lucas Melton, Miranda Dotts, Jordan Dotts, Shandalyn Asbury, Kodee Campbell, and Timothy Little; eleven great-grandchildren; and brother, Cecil Melton of Paoli.
His parents; wife; granddaughter Shianna Marie Dotts; and brother, Paul Melton, preceded him in death.
Cremation has been chosen with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 5, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9107 in Mitchell.
