MITCHELL – Philip Terry Neves, 70, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born July 3, 1954, in Massena, New York, he was the son of Rene and Elvera (Stoyka) Neves. He married Linda Marie Burkett on August 13, 1977 and she survives.
Phil was a 1973 graduate of Holy Family Catholic High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of the UAW Local 440 and retired March 31, 2016 from General Motors as a die cast operator. Phil loved deer hunting, especially opening day at the tower. He also enjoyed fishing, music, working in his yard, and was a professional vacuumer. He loved cooking and was a grilling expert. Phil loved helping others. He was a great Papi, as his grandchildren called him, and he loved taking care of his family.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Marie Neves of Mitchell; children, Michael Rene (Michelle) Neves of Key Largo, Florida, Matthew Steven (Cheryl) Neves of Mitchell, and Nicole Lynn (Matt) Neves of Key Largo, Florida; grandchildren, Luke Michael Neves, Miles Rene Neves, and Nico Angelo Matteliano; and siblings, David Neves of New York, Rene (Denise) Neves of New York, Mary Ellen (Just Don) Costello of Virginia, Julie (Mike) Gaskins of South Carolina, and Mark (Barb) Neves of Pennsylvania.
His parents preceded him in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father John Hall and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Cremation will follow.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m.
