MITCHELL – Phillip Eugene Fletcher, 78, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at his residence.

Born February 17, 1945, in Mitchell, he was the son of James G. and Helen Mae (Coleman) Fletcher.

Phillip was a 1963 graduate of Mitchell High School.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.  Phillip was a past master of the Masonic Lodge No. 228 F.&A.M.

Surviving are his children, Jon Fletcher of Garner, Iowa and Melissa Ann Fletcher of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; companion, Vicki Saunders of Mitchell; and mother of the children, Barbara Jill Sanders of Kansas City, Missouri.

His parents and brother, James W. Fletcher, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Reverend Reggie Clark officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.  Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

    I’m so sorry to hear about Phillip. He was a classmate and a good friend. We went to school, played in the high school band, and attended the same church together. My sympathy to his family.

    I had the honor of working with Phil for a couple of summers painting various parts of the school while he worked at Mitchell Schools. It was hard work but we had a good time. I'll never forget the time he called the oldies station he listened to and requested "Chain Gang" for the custodial crew. Only Phil. Rest easy, Fletch...and thanks for the memories.
