MITCHELL — Richard E. Purlee, 67, Mitchell, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009, at his residence with his wife and daughters by his side.

Born November 25, 1942, in New Albany, he was the son of Richard S. and Esther L. (Oakes) Purlee. He married Suetta Yaney December 4, 2004.

He graduated from Bedford High School in 1960 and Indiana State University in 1964. His career in radio was spent at various radio stations including WBIW and WSAL. He was a great trombone player and played in the Tuxedo Junction band, loved jazz music, reading, and had a great sense of humor.

He served in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of the Cecil C. Martin American Legion Post No. 250.

His parents preceded him in death.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 23, at Mitchell Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday at Chastain Funeral Home.
