ORLEANS Roscoe L. Gromer, D.D.S., Orleans, formerly of Mitchell, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County, in Paoli.

Born January 17, 1917, in Orange County, he was the son of John and Carmie (Powell) Gromer. He married Elnora Marie Johnson April 25, 1942, and she preceded him in death October 13, 1976. He married Juanita (McClintock) Trinkle August 6, 1982.

He was a captain in the U. S. Army during World War II and a member of the Orleans Warren Brock American Legion Post No. 69.

Dr. Gromer practiced dentistry for more than 50 years with 46 of those years in Mitchell. He was a lifetime member of the Indiana Dental Association, Indiana University Alumni Association, American Dental Association, and Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. He graduated from West Baden Springs High School in 1934, and was a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University Medical School. He was a former Mitchell City Councilman, former president of the Mitchell Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Lawrence County Rock Club. He belonged to the First Baptist Church in Orleans.

His parents; first wife; son, James Gromer; sister, Agnes Hall; and brother, Carl Gromer, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 Thursday, September 18, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home with Rev. Gene King officiating. Military honors will be accorded by Orleans Warren Brock American Legion Post No. 69.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
